Suns' Kevin Durant Dismisses Concerns About Aging: 'I Ain't a Regular 36-Year-Old'
January 22, 2025
Father Time may be undefeated, but he is struggling with his matchups against aging NBA stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant of late.
Just ask the Phoenix Suns star.
"I ain't a regular 36-year-old," Durant told Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports. "I condition my mind, my body, to be a pro. So what else am I gonna do? Burn out?
"How many people playing at this level at my age? So you can't compare me to anybody who've burnt out. It could happen, but does it look like it right now?"
It's hard to argue against the future Hall of Famer.
After all, he is averaging 27.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from deep this season. He can still beat defenders off the dribble, shoot over the top of them, take advantage of even a sliver of space on the outside and finish through contact in the lane.
If he continues to play this well at age 36, he will add more accolades to a resume that already includes two championships, two NBA Finals MVPs, a league MVP, four scoring titles, 11 All-NBA selections and 14 All-Star Game nods.
Durant has been a bright spot for an otherwise inconsistent Suns team that is just 21-21 and tied with Curry's Golden State Warriors for the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament.
But as long as they get into the playoffs, they will be dangerous against any opponent in large part because they have a 36-year-old playing at this level.
