Report: Dan Snyder 'F--king Hates' Watching Commanders' Success After Sale of Team
January 25, 2025
As the Washington Commanders get ready to play in the NFC Championship Game for the first time since January 1992, former owner Dan Snyder is apparently not having fun watching the organization succeed without him.
Per ESPN's Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr., Snyder expressed his thoughts about the Commanders being good in explicit terms at a dinner in London with some associates during the fall.
"He f--king hates it," one of the people at the dinner said to a colleague about Snyder's feelings.
Snyder sold the Commanders to a group led by Josh Harris for $6.05 billion in a deal that was approved in June 2023. He had owned the franchise since 1999.
The Commanders under Snyder's ownership were a complete disaster, both on and off the field. They made the playoffs just six times in 24 years, didn't win a postseason game after the 2005 season and had the sixth-worst record in the NFL from 1999 to 2022.
Beyond the on-field struggles in Washington, though, Snyder's tenure was mired in a series of scandals that ranged from suing fans who asked to be released from their season tickets because they couldn't keep up with payments to fostering a toxic workplace environment that included allegations of sexual harrassment and workplace discrimination.
An NFL investigation resulted in a $10 million fine for the Commanders after it found the workplace culture to be "highly unprofessional," including multiple instances of frequent instances of bullying and intimidation.
Things got so bad that the House Oversight and Reform Committee conducted its own separate investigation that determined both the NFL and Commanders both covered up decades of sexual misconduct within the organization.
Snyder also frequently and vehemently pushed back against changing the team's old nickname until several national retail outlets said they would stop selling their merchandise. FedEx, which had been the naming sponsor for Washington's stadium since 1999, threatened to remove its signage if the nickname wasn't changed.
The organization adopted the Washington Football Team as its name in July 2020 and kept it for two years before rebranding as the Commanders prior to the 2022 season.
While there are protocols in place that would have allowed the NFL to force a sale, it requires 75 percent approval from other owners (24 of 32) to enact. The league reportedly didn't have enough support to move forward.
Snyder, along with his wife Tanya, ultimately announced in November 2022 they hired Bank of America Securities to start exploring a sale of the Commanders.
After the sale was approved, the NFL also issued a $60 million fine to Snyder after an independent investigation determined he sexually harassed a team employee and the team withheld revenue from the league.
The 2024 Commanders under Harris' ownership went 12-5 in the regular season, their most wins since the 1991 campaign. They will play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday looking to reach the Super Bowl for the first time since beating the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl 26.
